Early Modern Astrologers

Modern astrology began in the 19th century. The earlier part of this era explored new ways to understand the philosophical, humanistic, and cyclical insights into astrology. Astrology was also made more accessible to the public during the 20th century.

  • Charles Jayne (1911-1985)

    Charles A. Jayne Jr. used to say that that one needed to study astronomy in order to truly understand astrology. He believed that astronomy was the physical side of the spiritual. Charles felt that the physical universe is but the shadow of God.

  • Charles E. O. Carter (1887-1968)

    Charles Carter

    Charles Carter was an eminent English astrologer and author. He was President of the Astrological Lodge of London and the first Principal of the Faculty of Astrological Studies.

  • Edward Johndro (1882-1951)

    Edward Johndro was an original thinker who discovered new astrological concepts that tradition-bound astrologers were unwilling to accept. His strict scientific approach added much to the astrology toolbox: vertex, 24th harmonic, fixed stars, predictive techniques and more.

  • Dane Rudhyar (1895-1985)

    Dane Rudhyar

    Dane Rudhyar is widely regarded by astrologers as one of the key figures in modern western astrology. Richard Tarnas stated that 'Jung and Rudhyar were the key figures in a more psychologically sophisticated astrology.' Why were his ideas so influential?
